Stinkweeds 21st Anniversary!
April 17th, 2008 Posted by: Dust Devil
The best indie music store in town celebrates 21 years on May 1, but the celebration begins early to coincide with National Record Store Day, which is April 19th.
Stinkweeds used to be out in Mesa, then Tempe, which for me was somewhat of a good thing because I probably spend way too much money there! The store moved to its current location of 12 W. Camelback, which is on the NW corner of Central and Camelback. If you are on Camelback, there is an entrance right by the bus stop that is there on the corner. If entering off Central, use the Dairy Queen entrance north of Camelback to get in.
The BEST supply in town of indie-rock discs are at this store! I have found in stock and have been able to order so many discs at this store over the years that no other store in town had. Kimber Lanning is the mastermind behind this institution and does a ton for the music community here. She and the rest of the staff really deserve our support.
Stinkweeds also carries plenty of other genres of music and the staff is great at helping you find what you need. Best of all, they actually care about music, so you receive genuine advice when looking for anything.
Here is a rundown of events for this Saturday, April 19th:
11am = Sing-a-Long Saturday for folks with kids
3pm-7pm = Four bands will be playing acoustic performances in the courtyard: Out of Reverie; Neba; Sleepwalk a Robot and Dust Jacket
All day there will be a storewide sale and free food, and give-a-ways will be a part of the festivities. You just may be able to walk away with limited 7″ EP’s from Built to Spill, REM, Panic at the Disco, Black keys and more! How about a chance at a free iPod?
The store is open from 11am-10pm Monday-Saturday, and 12-6pm on Sunday. Festivities will begin at 11am on Saturday, so do yourself a huge favor and make your way over to Stinkweeds!
Thanks for 21 great years Kimber, looking forward to at least 21 more!
