I really should just move to Colorado …

… since there are so many shows there I want to see. If Swervedriver goes through there and not Phoenix, that may solidify that decision.

I head back out to Denver tomorrow to see two amazing bands this weekend. Elbow will be playing at the Bluebird Theatre Friday night. I had to get the disc on iTunes because the company I pre-ordered from, which guaranteed when doing the pre-order that I would get me the disc before April 22, did not come through. I still haven’t received it yet. I highly recommend NOT ordering from Insound, ever.

Anyway, I got The Seldom Seen Kid on iTunes and it is another beautiful disc from this great band. I can’t say I have a favorite tune yet because they are ALL good. I am really bummed I barely discovered this band a little over a year ago (kudos again to Robert Lerma), but am really trying to make up for lost time. All four of their full-length discs are simply spectacular and I highly recommend getting their entire catalog. Their style of British dreampop is very mellow, very sedate, but you can sense an edge right at the surface in all their tunes. I believe Guy Garvey has one of the best voices in music today. Their U.S. tour run is pretty limited, so it might be hard to see them live. Unless they add something last minute I don’t forsee a Phoenix show, so this was a must trip. Check out my earlier post on them.

I don’t have the link for it, but go to YouTube and search “Elbow Glastonbury Festival”. The song Grace Under Pressure from the Cast of Thousands disc has at the end of the song the clip of the audience singing at the end of Elbow’s set at the Glastonbury Festival. I believe it was in 2004. You have to watch this video!

The Mobius Band will be playing at the Larimer Lounge on Saturday night. They have a very interesting sound and I have fallen in love with this band! Take some of the best elements of indie-pop music and add in a healthy dose of electronica, but not done in the manner you hear being played in dance clubs. Mix the styles together and you have the Mobius Band, a three-piece currently based out of Brooklyn.

Another feather in Robert Lerma’s cap, I had the pleasure of seeing these guys at the Monolith Festival last year and they were spectacular. I apologize for not seeing the full set. The only downside to Monolith is with five stages and so many great bands, you really have to move around as much as possible to get the full effect. There will be no leaving midway through their set this time. The Mobius Band deserves your full attention. Their latest disc Heaven is pop mastery, full of splendid songs that are chock full of hooks. Check out their website for some samples of their music and see if you don’t agree with me.

What a great weekend I have in store! Look for concert reviews early next week and in the meantime, head over to Stinkweeds or your favorite indie music store. Stores like that are actually cool enough to carry music like this. Take care!

Cheers!
