Holy cow, SLAYER is coming to Arizona in concert?!

February 2nd, 2009 Posted by: Dust Devil

All right folks,

The Dust Devil is not a huge metal fan. I like some bands, such as old Megadeth and Anthrax, Metallica long before they sold out, (they shall now be referred to as Metal-lick-a), Judas Priest and of course, Led Zeppelin. There is always debate as to whether or not Zeppelin was actually a metal band, but for this post let us assume they are.

Slayer for this music fan is the undisputed king of the genre. This a frightening band! Frightening because of the lyrical content, the ultra-frenetic speed of the music and the type of chaos they can generate. I have seen four bands in my life that are capable of creating a riot anytime they play: Black Flag; Fear; Rage Against the Machine and Slayer. All four bands put on truly vicious shows and create an incendiary atmosphere.

I still can remember buying their classic album Reign in Blood over 20 years ago and being totally blown away by every track on the disc. This is not an album to play for Mom. It is a dark, terrifying venture into the deepest recesses of the mind, and all these years later I am still amazed at how good it still sounds.

It is frightening to think that the speed and energy of Slayer is at an even greater level live, but this is a band that pulls off that difficult task with a controlled chaos and fury. I have been fortunate to have seen Slayer multiple times, have never been disappointed and look forward to being a part of the experience once again.

Slayer is part of the 2009 Rockstar Energy Mayhem Festival. Now personally, I wish they were headlining their own tour, rather than being a part of this festival with so many bands that have no right being on the same stage with the kings, but I will glady suffer through the filler this time. It has been some time, too long, since I saw Slayer live. That ends on July 17 of this year.

No spandex. No lighters. No sissies. This is metal at its best folks. Don’t miss out on seeing Slayer when they descend upon Cricket Pavilion!

Cheers!
The Dust Devil
