Celebrating Great Entertainers Why We Still Can
July 9th, 2009 Posted by: The Ticket Guy
Since the news of Michael Jackson passing is waning and all that’s left are the tabloid articles, I thought I would take a moment to reflect on some of the wonderful talents that are still out there for us to enjoy, live and in person. What better way to celebrate the life of a great entertainer than to go out and enjoy a night with another great artist that has been a part of our lives. Those guys and gals that we grew up with, the folks we’d laugh at on the Tonight Show or those we always knew would end up in Vegas, or better yet, those born to play Vegas. Great artist and entertainers that have been with us for so long. The ones we know we’ll miss when they are gone but are still out doing their thing for us to enjoy today.
#1. Paul McCartney; doesn’t matter if you’re a Beatles fan or not. This guy has probably been around since you were old enough to sing, “we all live in a yellow submarine, a yellow submarine, a yellow submarine.” Not to mention his duet with the great Michael Jackson or those wild and willing days with Wings. This guy has aged to perfection and he’s on tour right now for you to spend a night with. Paul McCartney Tickets
#2 Tom Jones; let’s face it, this guy is Las Vegas. Don’t tell me you don’t feel the rhythm of It’s Not Unusual pulsing through your veins each time you set foot in a Casino. Right now Mr. Jones is on the road and many of you don’t even have to visit Sin City to see him. Of course if you want the total package I recommend catching him at his second home. Tom Jones returns to Vegas in early August to take up residence once again at the MGM Grand. C’mon, this guy is going to make Jack LaLanne look like a boy scout before he passes, although it’s arguable who has had more lady’s undergarments throw at them. Tom Jones Tickets
#3 The Rolling Stones; okay, so they’re not on tour at the moment, but how on earth are all of these guys still alive, thriving, performing and still writing great music? I mean, how are we going to feel when we realize the Stones will never be back for another tour. Mark my words, these guys will be the oldest living act in history when they tour as part of the Barnum & Bailey Circus in 2029. Ringling Brothers Circus Tickets
#4 Cher; unlike Keith Richards this gal has figured out a way to defy the aging process. She’s made 60 the new 40 and sequins and feathers more her own than the Rockettes. Her marriages might not last but her star-power just keeps on burning. Cher returns to Vegas in September to enchant Caesars Palace yet again. Cher Tickets
#5 Motley Crue; I for one never would have thought these guys were going to make it out of the eighties with a growing fan-base. I guess I was wrong. They powered through the nineties with a few more hits for the charts and managed to keep their egos and bodies in tact to roll out a Cruefest Tour this summer. Cruefest Tickets
#6 Aerosmith and ZZ Top; I’m not ashamed to admit it’s not just the girls that are crazy about a sharp dressed man. If he’s slinging a six-string and smoking out southern-Texas rock ‘n’ roll riffs like a fine barbeque sauce, you can bet your ‘33 Ford Coupe I’ll be under pressure to grab a sweet seat to see this show. Throw in one of my favorites from the seventies (Aerosmith) and tell me that they will be playing Toys in the Attic in it’s entirety on this tour and Janie will need a gun to keep me from stealing her backstage pass to meet the likes of Steven Tyler, Billy Gibbons, Dusty Hill and Frank Beard.
#7 Jimmy Buffett; you can’t slap a piece of meat on the grill and throw-back an ice-cold margarita in the summertime without a certain song popping into your head. What’s going to happen to summer when Jimmy Buffett is gone? Slip on your flip-flops, watch out for those pop-tops and hurry out to a Buffett concert before the skin cancer catches up to this guy. Jimmy Buffett Tickets
#8 Willie Nelson; good ol’ Willie; ‘nough said. Willie Nelson Tickets
#9 Bob Dylan and Willie Nelson; but wait that’s not all! These two emperors of entertainment are on tour with am under-the-radar guy from a small town with lots of white picket fences and a Tasty Freeze, John Mellencamp. I can hear the guitars a strummin’ now! Holy cow you gotta kick yourself if you let an act like this slide by without you in attendance! Bob Dylan Willie Nelson and John Mellencamp Tickets
#10 Cheech and Chong; it’s Cheech and Chong man! Mr. Stadanko… ? Claaaaas! Cheech and Chong Tickets

Having just seen Paul McCartney at Coachella this year, I can GUARANTEE that he still is an amazing artist live. All the little teeny-boppers that were whining before Coachella began that he was too old to be a headliner shut it up real quick once his three-hour plus set was rolling. ZZ Top - saw them a couple of years ago or so, and they absolutely smoke live.
