According to Broadway League, these are the top selling Broadway tickets from last week. There has been a recent surge in interest in Broadway and sales have been seeing some significant jumps, which is excellent news for the consumer and ticket industry! The classics have been holding steady and a few new productions have been gaining popularity. Here you will find a list of the top 10 must-see broadway productions, in order of their gross ticket sales for last week.
1. Wicked hands down, Wicked is the most popular Broadway production to date. Fans all over the world are able to experience the story of The Wicked Witch of the West. The first showing of Wicked happened to be in San Francisco, but it was quickly moved to Broadway. Traveling Wicked productions are featured world-wide.
2. Lion King in my opinion, a big draw of this production is the fact it is family friendly. Finding a Broadway musical for the entire family to enjoy can be difficult at times, but Lion King hits the mark. The Lion King musical has been performed all over the work and features a musical score created by the immensely talented Elton John. This musical opened in 1997.
3. Jersey Boys the story of the popular rock ‘n roll band, The Four Season has turned out to be one of the most successful Broadway productions ever created. The music in Jersey Boys is absolutely delightful. Accompany the bands and Frankie Valli’s rise to success in this truly wonderful story of life, love and music.
4. Billy Elliot the first showing of this Broadway production was in 2008, so it is a relatively new production. The story is based off the film “Billy Elliot”, which is a touching story about a young boy who is an aspiring dancer. It chronicles the many trials and tribulations during his journey. Keep in mind; this is a musical and not a play. It has received numinous awards since its opening. Including; 10 Tony Awards and 10 awards from Drama Desk. Billy Elliot the musical is also wildly popular in Australia and in the West End.
5. A Steady Rain this Broadway play is brand spanking new. It was officially opened to the public in September of this year. It stars Hugh Jackman & Daniel Craig, who both happen to be established mainstream Hollywood actors. The story line is rather dark and intriguing; it follows these two Chicago police officers (and best friends) through a tale of bad decisions and intense emotions. It is a non-musical production and definitely a story for adults only.
6. A West Side Story the plot of this story is based loosely off the ever-popular Romeo & Juliet writings by William Shakespeare. The story is set in the 1950’s and tells the take of two star-crossed lovers, living in an American city. The cast deals with racism and other cultural issues of the time. This production is always a favorite of new and long time theater fanatics.
7. God of Carnage Originally, the first production of God of Carnage opened in London in 2006. The popularity of the play grew and soon an adaptation was opened on Broadway in the beginning of 2009. God of Carnage features James Gandolfini (from HBO’s The Sopranos), Hope Davis, Jeff Daniels and Marcia Gay Harden. This production has been awarded a handful of Tony Awards, most importantly Best Play!
8. Mama Mia ABBA fans rejoice! I know you all love their songs; they are catchy and pop genius. This Broadway musical is a story created based on all the hits of ABBA. The story is sewn together flawlessly, hence why this musical has been a Broadway favorite for over 10 years.
9. Phantom of the Opera is undoubtedly one of the most beloved musicals of all time. It is a love story, filled with drama, passion and so much more. The plot allows for perfect adaptation on stage and the music and atmosphere is absolutely
10. Hair follows a tribe of friends, political advocates and acquaintances (mostly hippies, groovy man!) through one of the biggest revolutions and most controversial periods of all time. Hair is a classic musical, focused mostly on the rock genre and was first opened in 1967. Hair is still very successful today.

Looks like Mel Brooks will be opening a Broadway version of Young Frankenstein at the St. James just in time for Halloween this year.
While its not official when it will open or even where it will open on Broadway, it’s certain to be a hit whenever it’s launched and wherever it lands.
Some of the reading cast (expected to star if all goes well) include: Kristin Chenoweth as Elizabeth, Brian D’Arcy James as Dr. Frankenstein and Marc Kudisch as the Police Inspector.
More info is available on broadwaywolrd.com.
Because it’s not solid when and where this show will open on Broadway we do not have a box office outlet available for you to check on tickets.
However, you know I’ll have great seats available when the time comes for you to catch this hot new musical in the Big Apple.
Grab some friends and start planning a great Halloween in New York perhaps.

Wicked Tickets are still some of the hardest items to get a hold in the Theatre world. After the ever popular show opened in 2004, People have been flying to New York and local theatres to see this show that truly puts a new spin to a classic tale.
Wicked is the story of Elphiba, a young woman that stands out from others in many ways. Her appearance truly stops you, as you see a woman, unsure, shy, but most of all…GREEN! In her young life, she finds herself going to school in OZ. There, she would learn what she is called to do and be, and learns of the power within her. She would meet the Wizard, and begin her journey. Elphiba finds herself sharing a room with Galinda, the popular, pretty girl on campus. This story takes off in a humorous, fun and then tragic plot, with us learning how Elphiba becomes one of the most hated “bad guys” in history; the Wicked Witch of the West.
This great theatre show brings amazing music, dancing, writing and designing that will truly keep the entire family captivated. Wicked still performs on a normal basis on Broadway, and is also traveling nationwide. Wicked opened a show in London last year, with the 2004 Tony Award winner Idina Menzel playing her role as Elphiba, creating quite a buzz and pupularity throughout England. Now the show is doing well in competing with shows like Chicago, Phantom of the Opera and the English favorite Spamalot.
If you are a theatre enthusiast, or just want to see a good show, take the opportunity to see Wicked. Get tickets as early as possible to ensure great seats. As always, try going to Ticketmaster.com to get tickets, or try going to the official Wicked website or the theatre venue itself. If you are having a hard time finding tickets, or want to get premium seating, try going to Tickco.com to see what is available.
Don’t miss out on a chance to see one of the greatest shows to hit the stage, Wicked.
See ya next show,

The reviews are in, and the buzz around Broadway is that Mary Poppins, Disney’s newest musical, is to say one word, Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious! The first weekend went of magically and it’s no surprise that it’s expected to be the show-to-see this coming up holiday season.
The Broadway production of Mary Poppins is a little different from the movie version that came out in the 60’s. They have brought more of the storyline of the book in order to bring a different experience of this popular story to the stage. This production is the first time Disney and Broadway producing phenom Cameron Macintosh have worked together. Cameron Macintosh is known for bringing such musical hits like Les Miserables and Miss Saigon to Broadway and stages around the world. This amazing team has brought spectacular music, dancing, and set designs that are sure to keep you smiling and clapping. Mary Poppins the Musical is truly a great show to bring the entire family to experience.
Mary Poppins on Broadway is the prime example of what a musical should be like. Whether you are a skilled thespian, lover of the Broadway stage, or have never seen a show before, Mary Poppins will surely impress and keep you talking, perhaps even Chim-Chim-Chiree-ing all the way home.
Mary Poppins Broadway tickets are hard to come by because of the buzz, but you can always try Ticketmaster to see if there are any available tickets, or try going to the official Mary Poppins Musical website. If you don’t have any luck finding tickets, you can always try TickCo.com.
See ya next show.
